Dec 5th: Augmented decoration
The fifth day of The Refinement Club’s Advent calendar features Håkon Krogenæs. Enjoy his cool idea about augmented decoration.
My name is Håkon Krogenæs, and I’m in the process of buying my first apartment. Due to my financial situation it is going to be a small one. With almost minuscule flats it is essential to make the absolute most of every square centimeter, and when you are looking at a flat it’s often hard to see its potential. You have to try to visualize how it would look with furniture that you either already have or that you really want. And then you have to remember the measurements of every piece of furniture and if you do, disappointment will strike as you realize that there’s not enough space. Sadly, this idea won’t make your flat any bigger, but I believe it can help you in making the most of that space with as little effort as possible.
What I want is an app for my mobile device, which I can easily bring to an open house, that can help me with decorating the flat while I’m there. I want this app to feature augmented reality so that I can point my device at a wall and drag pieces of furniture onto the screen. It should be connected to online catalogues such as IKEA. It would be amazing if the app could take measurements and suggest furniture for you to put in the space you’re pointing your device. You could even take pictures of furniture you already have to see how they would fit in at your new place. After you’ve done decorating it will be saved to you’re device and synced to a web site as I reckon it would be more convenient to review the decorated space on a computer with a bigger screen.
I believe this app could aid people in finding good solutions for their homes wether they’re getting a new place or redecorating the old.
Would you like to submit your own idea to our calendar? Go ahead!
