Dec 9th: Complaining sucks!
The ninth day of The Refinement Club’s Advent calendar features Tim Oudenstad’s idea on how to appreciate living in Norway and realize how privileged we are.
I’m really sick of Norwegians complaining about… Well, almost everything. Also, I’m tired of the negative attitude many people have towards giving money to charity.
Idea:
I’d like people to realize how privileged we are to be born in Norway, the richest and best-run country in the world. How to achieve this enlightenment? Compare how many hours we have to work for what we buy (on an average salary ie nurse) to how many hours people in third world countries have to work to get enough money to purchase the same things.
Solution:
Put stickers on things, replacing the amount in NOK with the number of hours compared to hours worked in Norway vs. Etiopia.
On webshops, replace the amount with number of hours worked in any country on any kind of salary on any kind of work.
Replace the amount on invoices with number of hours worked.
Do the same with restaurant tabs and bar bills.
Basically show in as many relevant ways as possible how many hours we have to work to get what we want and compare this to rest of the world.
Combining this with a good cause/charity, it will demonstrate how little we have to work to make a big difference in another country, hopefully raising a lot of money for charity.
