Dec 11th: Time to give tv a break
The eleventh day of The Refinement Club’s Advent calendar features Rannveig Revhaug’s idea on how to personalize the ad break on TV.
TV is so 15yrs ago, I know. But still, it’s there, and it’s partly annoying. The main reason it bugs us is the massive bundle of stupid, untimely and useless ads in the middle of your favorite tv show - a great reason to download or watch series online just there. I don’t need to know about all the different detergents out there, or the endless variations of skincare / haircare / shaving products / dipers / tampons / etc.
What if the ads on your tv were perfectly tuned and tweaked to fit your tastes?
You could register your interests, likes and needs (somehow) with your digital tv provider, and they, in turn, could design relevant commercial breaks customized for their customers. If you’re into horseback riding, swimming and travelling, you’d get ads selected for you and your tastes. It might even be helpful.
What if you don’t want commercials at all? That should be all right, but you’d probably have to pay a bit more to get rid of them. Alternatively, maybe the cable company could replace the ads with a music video of your choice, or even a casual game. Give the commercial break a real break.
