This Year of Refinements
In the first year of The Refinement Club, 2010, we have posted 56 posts. Most of the posts are ideas and concepts, about 50. We think it’s swell! There are tons of great ideas to dig into and refine even further. If you got some spare time the rest of the holidays, here are some of our favorite ideas and concepts.
- The Ultimate Workflow System was our second concept at The Refinement Club. It’s a long post, but we think it’s worth a read. We reimagined the way we work on computers and how to do it in a more convenient way.
- Winter in Norway How do you manage the winter and the depressive darkness which is a part of it? Our idea on how to emulate sunlight and to give the residents a little getaway from the cold and the darkness is one concept we would love for someone to make.
- Old people is another concept we feel has a lot of potential and hope someone will take it further (maybe we’re making it ourself in 2011?). The idea of connecting young people to wiser and older people, and to facilitate mentoring is one killer idea.
- The Newsgame This post is our most successful post, it’s one bold idea, making newspapers into games.
- TV Sucks Lets Make it Social Connecting your TV with your tablet has the potential to do some really cool stuff. Expecting to see concepts like this materialize in the near future.
- Pitch Night v.01 Our biggest accomplishment so far, gathering around 30 bright minds for one night of mass refining. Make sure to drop by our next Pitch Night in early February.
- Our Advent Calendar featured 24 great concepts and ideas and the first one out was Casper C’s idea, Secret Crush, a simple but genius idea on how to connect people who have a crush on each other.
- Another idea from our Advent Calendar of Ideas was the idea about efficiency in everyday life, from Theo Blackburn, Jonas Laberg and Ine Marie Vassøy.
- Cas Lemmens idea about collecting all your favorized links on one site was also a great contribution to the Advent Calendar.
- A third highlight from the calendar was Kontribit sharing reinvented by Mats André Kristiansen, Andreas Skaranger and Funkbit AS. Some great thoughts and ideas on how sharing should be more refined. A great concept we are looking forward to play more with.
So that was some of the highlights from 2010, our first year. It has been a lot of great ideas so don’t be afraid to dig deeper into our archives. What’s up for 2011? Who knows? There will be more Pitch Nights, maybe a Summer Camp, Feature Fridays and of course weekly refinements. Stay tuned!
Thanks for following us!
Happy New Year from Gro and Johannes.
