Winter in Norway

Winter in Norway can be tough, and a lot of people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder.

This week The Refinement Club is looking back at an idea we had a couple of years ago, and we’re finally putting it into words.

Our insights:

  • It’s boring and time consuming to sit in front of a sunlight lamp
  • People use solariums to get a boost during winter, not necessarily to get a tan
  • A lot of people take vacations during winter to travel somewhere warm and sunny

Our solution:
A place where you can get away from the dark, cold and snowy Scandinavian reality, and get your well deserved sun fix.

It’s a small domelike structure with exterior of frosted glass containing an interactive, therapeutical get-away, placed around in the city at spots where people typically wait. Consists of two parts, a main room and a smaller room to keep the cold out and where you can hang your outer clothes.

  • Therapeutical artificial sun light
  • Choose between different programs representing different warm and sunny biotopes
  • Choose activity level (calm to energetic)
  • 3D film on all surfaces (environment, wildlife)
  • Sound
  • Smell
  • Temperature
  • Interactivity through motion sensors

With the threats of global warming and the colder winters that it involves for Northern Europe, we think there is a real need for products and services like this. So someone, please invest in this! We Scandinavians are depressed and introvert enough as it is.

So what do you think?
